Old Survival Map Download

I finally downloaded the HUGE file, (You really weren't kidding!) and I've extracted it into my saves file and tried to play it in single player mode. Problem is, it runs super super slow with everything that is in said file and I either wonder if there is a way to make it smaller without taking out anything in order for my part of the map to load quicker....or....
If there was a way to port my build from the old map into the new for a price? There was talk of that in the mod and diplomat channels later last year I believe.
Is there a copy of the old map? I'm totally lost. Need to get home.
